The chilly confines of the Otsego County Sportsplex will serve as the frozen stage for a Michigan high school hockey showdown tonight when the Gaylord Blue Devils play host to the Sault High Blue Devils.

Sault High, which began the 2020-2021 season earlier this week with a 2-1 win over the Cheboygan Chiefs, will face off against a Gaylord squad which will be playing its third game in four nights, having blanked the Cadillac Vikings 4-0 before dropping a 6-4 decision to the Midland Chemics.

Tonight’s game has a slated 6:00 start time and local radio station Eagle 95.1 will carry it live with the brothers of the airwaves, Tim Ellis and Clayton Ellis, providing the play by play and commentary. The game can also be heard on line via http://EagleRadio951.com.

Sault High will be looking for its second win in as many outings tonight. In the Blue Devils season opener, forwards Luke Eagle and Jory Homminga scored goals in the home-ice win over Cheboygan.

Gaylord, meanwhile, will be seeking a return to the victory column after the loss to Midland that followed the win over Cadillac in which senior goalie Brewer Koleszar fashioned the shutout.

High school hockey in Michigan recently received the go ahead from Governor Gretchen Whitmer to return to game activity for the first time in close to a calendar year.
