Former Soo Greyhounds all-star defenseman Ric Jackman, who went on to play on a Stanley Cup championship team, has been named head coach of the Bradford Rattlers of the Greater Metro Jr. Hockey League.

The soon-to-be 39-year old Jackman, who played three full Ontario Hockey League seasons as a world-class performer with the Greyhounds, went on to an eight-year career in the National Hockey League after being a first-round draft pick of the Dallas Stars.

His best OHL season with the Greyhounds was his last, one in which he had 33 goals, 40 assists, 73 points and 111 penalty minutes from his blueline position.

A Toronto area native, Jackman was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks.

In all, Jackman played 20 seasons of pro hockey, including a decade at the European level. He retired following the 2016-2017 season.

What you think about “Big hire for Bradford Rattlers”

  1. great hire!
One of my favorite defencemen to watch play the game.
Great hockey sense as so mobile. Reminded me of Jamie Rivers in style of play.

Deserved a longer look at the NHL level.

    All the best

      1. The GMHL is gonna be down to 10 teams eventually and fold. Players are expected to pay a large chunk of money to play. Most of the players aren’t even from Canada. Billet fees are $550/per month and the players have to pay, not the teams. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
