The battle of the Blue Devils went to Gaylord. Playing at home, Gaylord Blue Devils hissed past the Sault High Blue Devils 7-3 in Michigan high school hockey action from Saturday night.

The win for Gaylord capped a busy opening week of play for high school hockey in Michigan, which got the go ahead from Governor Gretchen Whitmer to finally begin the 2020-2021 season.

Gaylord played three games in the space of four nights and came away with two victories, including Saturday’s 7-3 win over the visitors from the Sault.

The home side never trailed in Saturday’s match as Gaylord took a 3-0 lead before increasing the margin to 4-2 going into the third period.

Captain Jack Swan, Dominic Cicco and Aaron Kogan scored for Sault High.

Sault High began its season earlier in the week with a 2-1 home ice triumph over the Cheboygan Chiefs.

Three more games remain on the February slate of activity for Sault High. The Blue Devils will then play five more regular season games in March before the playoffs begin in the middle of that month.
