Good as gold. Make that three championships for the Sault Pee Wee A Wildcats girls hockey team thus far this 2018-2019 season.
The most recent gold medal championship for the Pee Wee Wildcats came at the Bolts and Hearts Tournament in Durham, Ontario.
Earlier this season the Pee Wee Wildcats won gold at the Pink in the Rink Tournament in Toronto and the Bauer World Invite in Detroit.
Going into the Bolts and Hearts tournament in Durham, the Wildcats of the Sault were the ranked the no. 2 ranked team in their age group in Ontario.
The Wildcats began the recent tournament in Durham with opening day victories over the Whitby Wolves and Ancaster Avalanche. They then advanced to the quarter finals by upending the Nepean Wildcats B team.
On to the playoff round, the Wildcats edged the Sudbury Lady Wolves and the Cornwall Typhoons to advance to the championship game against the top-ranked Nepean Wildcats A team.
And it was the Sault that emerged from the title tilt to return home with yet another gold medal championship.
Players on the gold medal champs from the Sault include Kendyll Karhi, Sara Boston, Matea Glavota, Martina Pucci, Bryce Gagnon, Mikayla Krezek, Samantha Guido, Lauren Dickie, Taryn Pratt, Isabelle Fata, Kylie Schryer, Avery Stephens, Bianca Biagini, Hailee Gill, Molly Watson, Ava Provenzano and Annika Babineau.
The coaching staff includes head coach Cale Krezek, assistants Rico Fata, John Glavota, Lucas Provenzano, Ralph Cuglietta and Denis Paradis. The trainer is Melissa Watson and J.P. Babineau is the manager.
The Sault Pee Wee A Wildcats will now head to the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association provincial championships that are slated for April 5-7 in Toronto.
