A varsity athletics fixture in basketball and volleyball for decades, Sault College is working towards further establishing its men’s and women’s hockey programs.

As the Cougars prep for full membership in the Division 3, American Collegiate Hockey Association in 2017-2018 after previous participation as a men’s club team, Sault College is also working towards icing a women’s squad of similar status.

Sault College women’s hockey is expected to soon unveil a 2017-2018 schedule of games that includes exhibition matches against ACHA member teams. Sault College is expected to announce the hiring of its women’s hockey coach shortly.

Meanwhile, the Cougar men are poised for full membership in the ACHA in 2017-2018 under the direction of well-known Sault Ste. Marie coach Mike Hall.

Hall coached the old Soo North Stars of the Great North Midget Hockey League with distinction over a 19-year period that ended in 2013. With Hall at the helm, the North Stars won numerous Great North championships and moved multiple players to the Ontario Hockey League level and beyond.

What you think about “Hockey rise at Sault College”

  1. Mike was an integral component of my playing days. He taught more than X’s and O’s. He taught us about sacrifice and commitment to each other which are transferable skills off the ice. I often think back on his words and wisdom as I coach today. Good luck Mike, your time and commitment has been passed on through one of your pupils. The Cougars are lucky to have a resource and leader in you.
