Midget tournament project

Hockey News North is working at trying to set up a major midget hockey mini-tournament that would tentatively be slated for the August 23-25 weekend in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Ideally, it would be a four-team event with representatives from each of the Great North Midget Hockey League and Michigan Amateur Hockey Association.

I have already broached the idea with representatives from the Soo Major Greyhounds and Timmins Majors of the Great North and Soo Indians and Detroit Fighting Irish of the MAHA.

Thus far, response has been positive from the coaches and managers from three of the programs — the two Soo hockey clubs and Detroit — though no formal commitments have been made at this time as teams need to do due diligence with respect to their respective associations.

Via Hockey News North, I am trying to put this together as a way of hoping to attract more attention from junior hockey leagues and American college schools towards players from the regions mentioned above.

In a best-case scenario, the mini-tournament will go forward and include the above-mentioned teams and one other from the Great North from among the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves, North Bay Trappers, Kapuskasing Flyers and New Liskeard Cubs.

Any organization with any interest can message me privately via Facebook or Twitter or by my e-mail, which is randyrusson@shaw.ca.
