Highly-regarded, 2002 birth year forward Max Itagaki has made an early commitment to play Division 1 hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Based in Troy, New York, the RPI Engineers are members of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Itagaki is currently playing for the Chicago Mission of the under-16, High Performance Hockey League and is a draft pick of the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League.

Itagaki’s family advisor, David Maciuk of JDM Sports, provided his input on the ability of the 5-foot-7, 140-pound speedster.

“First off he was able to get a commitment to RPI within 10 days of retaining us as our client,” Maciuk said in a matter-of-fact manner. “To us he is one of the top under 16 players in the United States. He is an under-sized forward but has skill and an IQ that are off the charts.

“Being a very good student, RPI is a great fit for him,” Maciuk told Hockey News North.
