Contract renewal for Kowalsky

Rick Kowalsky, who captained the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League to the 1993 Memorial Cup championship, has signed a two-year contract extension to continue as head coach of the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League.

Albany is the no. 1 farm team of the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League.

The 44-year old Kowalsky was named AHL coach-of-the-year for 2015-2016 after guiding Albany to its best record in franchise history, a 46-20-10 mark.

Kowalsky has coached at the AHL level with Albany since 2010 and has led the Devils to a record of 217-179-64 during that span.

He is married to the former Debbie Grigg of Sault Ste. Marie and they have three children together.
