Sault College women’s coach

Sault College Cougars women’s hockey team has stayed local in hiring Sault Ste Marie native Chad Mousseau as its head coach effective the 2017-2018 season.

Mousseau takes the helm of the Lady Cougars after coaching for a number of years within the Sault Female Hockey Association.

Jay Houslander, who is the men’s and women’s hockey co-ordinator at Sault College, confirmed the appointment of Mousseau to HockeyNewsNorth.com.

“Mousseau was hired following an extensive search that attracted interest throughout Sault Ste. Marie’s hockey community,” Houslander began. “Having Chad on board is a real sign of our commitment to women’s hockey.

“We can now get started on building on that commitment and icing a team this season that will be building for 2018–2019 and becoming a member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association,” Houslander continued.

The Sault College women’s squad will compete on an exhibition basis this season and face off against local teams and out of town competition.

Mousseau is excited to be a part of the women’s program at Sault College as it trends towards full membership into the ACHA beyond this season.

“I feel it is a great opportunity for the these young athletes to stay involved with the sport. Being accepted into the (ACHA) next year is a great chance to show case their talent and it shows the support from the college for the athletes,” relayed Mousseau.

Sault College manager of athletics Scott Gray took note of the hiring with official comment.

“We are excited to have Chad on board as we transition our women’s program to ACHA play. He brings positive experience in the world of women’s/girls hockey and we look forward to the program growing with him,” offered Gray.
