Sault Major sends an appeal
Sault Major Hockey Association is asking the Great North Midget Hockey League to reconsider its recent decision to deny membership to a minor midget team from the Soo for the 2017-2018 season.
Sault Major had sought to put a minor midget team in the GNMHL which would have been in addition to its existing major midget squad.
Both Sudbury and North Bay have minor midget and major midget teams in what is now an eight-member GNMHL. North Bay was recently approved to enter a minor midget team in addition to its current major midget squad.
At any rate, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed via Sault Major first vice president Steve Lawrence that it has asked the GNMHL to overturn its decision and allow a minor midget team from the Soo into the league.
“As of last Friday, Sault Major has sent out an appellate letter asking the GNMHL to reconsider its decision,” Lawrence told HockeyNewsNorth.com.
“The GNMHL’s season-scheduling meeting is on June 24 and SMHA would very much like to be a part of that,” Lawrence continued. “Having a third minor midget team in that loop would benefit all players and centers involved.”
As it now stands, the eight teams in the Great North include minor midget and major midget squads from both Sudbury and North Bay as well as single entries from the Soo, Kapuskasing, New Liskeard and Timmins.
Are they planning on taking kids from their Major Bantam team? I heard that was the plan and to fold the Bantam entry.
