Sault Major to name coaches

Sault Major Hockey Association will soon unveil its head coach selections for the 2017-2018 season including those who will head up the major and (proposed) minor midget teams.

Kevin Panco is expected to return for another season at the helm of the Soo Greyhounds of the Great North Midget Hockey League.

Meanwhile, as Sault Major has plans to operate a second team in the Great North loop — it would be a minor midget entry exclusive to players with 2002 birth dates — the local association has decided on who its coach will be.

Pending the approval of the Great North loop — which operates under the umbrella of the Northern Ontario Hockey Association — Sault Major will proceed with its minor midget team for 2017-2018 with certain restrictions and conditions to be imposed.

The minor midget team, should it gain the necessary approval to join what is currently a seven-member Great North, will be coached by Jamie Henderson.

Henderson has extensive coaching and management experience at the high school level with the St. Mary’s Knights and in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League with the Soo Thunderbirds as well as in operations with the Lake Superior State Lakers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

What you think about “Sault Major to name coaches”

  1. It would be nice to see all major centres in the north be able to ice minor midget teams. There are more than enough players for both major and minor teams in these centres (Sudbury, Timmins, Soo and North Bay). Its up to their respective assoc to entice the players to stay and play.

  2. Sault Major is a sinking ship. Start listening to your customer base and make proper hockey educated decisions.

You had the opportunity to make change and didn’t. Shame on you!

Wonder if Soo Curlers has ice time for our hockey youth?
