Soo Reps maintain top spot
Chalk up two more victories for the first-place pee wee major AA Sault Reps of the Nickel District Minor Hockey League.
Playing on the home ice of John Rhodes Community Center, the Reps skated to a sweep of the Copper Cliff Reds.
On Saturday, the Soo totally dominated Copper Cliff from the outset only to barely escape with a 2-1 victory.
Logan Dearing — on a brilliant solo dash — and Alessandro Parco scored for coach Frank Porco’s Reps, who out-shot the visitors from Copper Cliff by a wide margin.
Copper Cliff made things interesting with a late third-period goal but the Soo posted the victory as goalie Cash Rowswell held the fort with some timely saves, including a last-minute stop.
Defenseman Mason Goulet turned in a noticeable effort on the Soo blue line with some exceptional recovery work in the Reps end of the rink.
The Soo then completed the two-game weekend sweep with a 3-1 triumph this morning.
Sam Caruso, James Elliott and Nick Dearing scored for the Soo in support of Reps goalie Sebastian Brassard.
The back to back wins improves the local pee wee major AA team’s record to 9-0-1 in league play.
