Trenton Morriseau hit for the hat trick and Talon Thomas tallied twice as the expansion Kam River Fighting Walleye made its official debut on Friday with a 6-2 win over the defending champion Thunder Bay North Stars.

The game marked the start of the 2020-2021 regular season in the Superior International Jr. Hockey League.

Kam River, Thunder Bay, the Dryden Ice Dogs and Red Lake Miners are the four SIJHL teams that will mark the start of the regular season this weekend.

The league’s fifth northwestern Ontario based team, the Fort Frances Lakers, will be worked into the COVID-19 affected schedule in the days ahead, according to SIJHL commissioner Darrin Nicholas.
