Sudbury Royals of the new Canadian International Hockey League now have 13 players signed, general manager KB Beals has confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com.

Impressively, the 13 players include nine from the Sudbury region, another from nearby Blind River as well as one from each of Windsor, Ont., Kelowna, B.C. and Kazan, Russia.

Among the signed players are goalies Jake Mactaggart and Justin Roy, defencemen Nic Martin, Kirk Trayner and Devin Valiquette, defenceman-forward Austin Burke and forwards Paul (Little Bear) Recollet, Dexter Lamarche, Jordan Piette, Tyler Rochon, Taylor Jordan, Brandan Dumouchel and Sergey (Russian Rocket) Erileev.

To be sure, Beals and Royals head coach Trevor Blanchard — who played multiple seasons in the Ontario Hockey League and then coached at various levels, including in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League with Sudbury Nickel Barons — are ahead of the game as the CIHL prepares for the start of its inaugural regular season in early October.
