In a showdown between Great North Midget Hockey League rivals, North Bay Trappers got the best of the host Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves in a bronze-medal keeper at the Ontario Hockey Federation regional tournament.

The youthful Trappers tripped up the veteran-laden Nickel Capital Wolves 6-3 in the OHF bronze match title tilt that was held today in Sudbury.

Eric Mondoux paced coach Guy Blanchard’s Trappers with a one-goal, three-assist effort.

The game culminated a see-saw season between the nearby, Highway 17 rivals.

North Bay won the regular-season title only to lose to Sudbury in the fifth-and-deciding game of the Great North playoff finals.

But on the provincial platform, it was the Trappers who claimed the bronze medal in the season-ending finale with the Nickel Capital Wolves.

The Trappers featured no less than ten 2001 birth-year players on their roster compared to none for the Nickel Capital Wolves.

What you think about “Bronze medal for NB Trappers”

  1. A big congrats to North Bay on their bronze medal win and to other 5 teams that participated on the Regional Championship including the Champion Mississauga Rebels.
Here’s a little word of advice to the host committee for next years Tellus cup tournament being held in Sudbury. Maybe you should try bringing the referees in from the GTHL.
All weekend long the refereeing was awful. I would be surprised if any of the southern team are looking forward to a return trip next spring.

  2. The referees are actually brought in as follows.
    2 from GTHL
    2 from OMHA
    2 from Alliane Hockey
    2 from NOHA
