Citing personal reasons, Bob MacLean has stepped down as commissioner of the Great North Midget Hockey League, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

“The reasons for my resignation are personal and I would prefer to not discuss them publicly,” MacLean relayed via message.

“My resignation will be effective August 31, 2017 or sooner if a successor is named prior to that date,” MacLean added. “I apologize for the timing of this decision.”

The Great North loop is set to begin the 2017-2018 season in early September with nine teams, two more than last year.
