Great North playoff dates

Fourth-seed Soo Greyhounds and fifth-place Timmins Majors will face off in a first-round, best-of-three, Great North Midget Hockey League playoff series this weekend.

Timmins will play host to the series opener in a slated 7:30 p.m. match on Friday. The game will be played at Jus Jordan Arena in nearby Iroquois Falls, Hockey News North has confirmed.

The series will then shift to the Soo for Game 2 on Saturday night at 7:30 at the Essar Centre and for Game 3 (if necessary) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 at John Rhodes Community Centre.

The two teams finished a single point apart during the 2017-2018 regular season. The Soo posted a record of 13-19-4 and Timmins had a mark of 14-21-1.

The other first-round playoff series features third-seed Kapuskasing Flyers and sixth-place New Liskeard Cubs.

The top two teams in the major midget division, North Bay Trappers and Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves, get first-round byes.

  1. In the other series as mentioned briefly, New Liskeard will play host to the series opener slated for 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Don Shepherdson Arena.

    The series will then shift to Kapuskasing for Game 2 at the Sports Palace on Saturday night for a 7:30 p.m. start. Game 3 (if necessary) will be on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm.

    Kap posted a record of 18-14-3-1 and the Cubs had a mark of 5-30-1.
