Great North stunner!

Backed by the spectacular play of goalie Noah Zeppa, the minor midget Soo Thunderbirds stunned the visiting major midget North Bay Trappers 3-2 in Great North Midget Hockey League action from this afternoon.

As Zeppa stood on his head between the pipes, Jacob Sewell broke a 2-2 tie by scoring with less than three minutes to play in the third period to give the Soo minor midgets their first victory of the season.

The Soo had entered the game with a record of 0-8-3 compared to the 12-2-1 mark that the powerful North Bay major midgets had sported.

Michael Neveau and Justin Mauro scored the other Soo goals in today’s shocker.

Thunderbirds head coach Jamie Henderson was naturally ecstatic with the epic upset.

“Zeppa was amazing,” Henderson told HockeyNewsNorth.com, “and all of the guys played super hard.”

What you think about “Great North stunner!”

  1. That’s a great acomplishment for those youg boys. North Bay has about 6 or 7 players drafted in the OHL. There not as good a team when J.Rainville isn’t in net. They scored 11 against the Soo major team, again kudos to those kids.

Were the Soo majors caught cheating? — they had 2 wins taking away from them?

  2. Not sure why they don’t keep Shot Totals in this League … by my count North Bay out shot the Soo by 60 to 15 … OHL Teams should be watching Zeppa IMO.

  3. Zeppa stole that game for them that is for sure.
It is one of the best games that I have seen a Goalie play in along time.
