Soo Greyhounds of the Great North Midget Hockey League are facing elimination following a pair of road losses to the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves on the weekend.

Sudbury slipped past the Soo 3-2 in overtime on Sunday and 4-2 on Saturday.

The sweep gives the Nickel Capital Wolves a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five, semi-final playoff series.

Game 3 is slated for the Soo this Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Essar Centre.

In both games in Sudbury, the Soo had the lead but was unable to hold on to it.

The playoff defeats mark the third straight loss by the Greyhounds to the Nickel Capital Wolves, having given up a big lead in the final game of the regular season that allowed Sudbury to overtake the Soo for second place and home ice advantage for the current playoff series.

What you think about “Hound midgets in a hole”

  1. I heard the refs were real homers in Sudbury this weekend. Soo has the better team next weekend will be different.

  2. Bad reffing is usually the excuse when outcoached. A true development team with a proportioned mix of 01s and a ‘hockey coach’ behind the bench would likely have yielded better results. However it seems this Sault coach (Panco) who is also head coach of the minor midget Team NOHA could care less about our local 2001 development (in my opinion) as shown when it selected only 2 kids from the Sault to represent us on the northern Ontario team at the OHL Cup. And we wonder why our kids aren’t drafted to the O locally?
