Hound midgets hot to trot

Having won eight of nine games to begin the 2016-2017 season, Soo Greyhounds are in a dog fight with the North Bay Trappers for first place in the Great North Midget Hockey League.

With a record of 8-0-1 for 17 points, North Bay has a slight edge on the Soo through nine games as the Greyhounds have 16 points from an 8-0-1 mark.

The Soo features four of the top five scorers in the GNMHL — Lucas Theriault, Caleb Wood, Noah Boman and Camaryn Baber.

Theriault, who is an Ontario Hockey League draft pick of the Niagara IceDogs, has 10 goals, 18 assists, 28 points to lead the league scoring parade. Wood has 8-14-22 totals, Boman is 8-12-20 and Baber is 10-3-13.

Conversely, North Bay boasts the league’s best goals against average with the top two goalies in the GNMHL — Drew Joyal and Joel Rainville.

Joyal has a 1.25 GAA in 240 minutes of work. Rainville has a 1.38 GAA in 305 minutes of play.
