Pat Millette has opted not to return to the Kapuskasing Flyers of the Great North Midget Hockey League as their head coach for the 2017-2018 season.

The well-respected Millette — who is employed as a school teacher — led Kapuskasing to a solid fourth-place finish during the 2016-2017 regular season and then guided the Flyers into the second round of the playoffs.

“After having several conversations with Pat about the past season and the upcoming season he felt this was the best move for him and his family,” Flyers president Darren Potvin told Postmedia.

“Obviously we are sad that Pat has decided to not return but we respect his decision,” Potvin added. “We know how much he loves this team and this organization. This wasn’t an easy decision for him but his family comes before anything else and we fully respect that.”

Millette will remain with the Kapuskasing organization in a yet-to-be-determined capacity.

The Flyers have identified a number of candidates to take over from Millette.

“Our list of candidates is impressive and includes some high profile coaches with many years of experience,” said Potvin.

Already planning ahead to next season, the Flyers will be holding a spring camp on April 29 and 30.
