Soo Major Midget Thunderbirds of the Great North Midget Hockey League have added yet another player to their growing roster, Hockey News North has confirmed.

Defenseman Mackenzie Ableson has opted to rejoin the Soo major midgets for another season. Abelson, who has a 2001 birth date, played in 35 regular season games for the Soo major midgets in 2017-2018 and had 2 goals, 9 assists, 11 points from his blue-line position.

Earlier this week, as first reported by Hockey News North, defenseman Jordan Ritchie and forward Cole Delarosbil signed on with the Soo major midgets.

Ableson, Ritchie and Delarosbil are all slated to be in the lineup for home games this weekend against the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves and Kapuskasing Flyers.

Ritchie decided to return to the Soo major midgets for a second season after exploring other options. The dependable defender also saw action with the French River Rapids of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League as an affiliate player in 2017-2018.

Delarosbil played at the high school level in Sault Ste. Marie for the St. Mary’s Knights last season.

The additions of Ableson, Ritchie and Delarosbil give the Soo major midgets an active roster of 11 forwards, six defensemen and two goalies.

The Soo major midgets opened the 2018-2019 Great North season last weekend and split a pair of home games with the Timmins Majors.
