The restless hands of time are ticking towards a Major tryout camp that will determine the makeup of the midget hockey team in Timmins.

And as HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed, several roster spots will be available when the Timmins Majors of the Great North Midget Hockey League hold their main tryout camp beginning this Friday at venerable McIntyre Arena.

To be sure, a Majors official has told HockeyNewsNorth.com that the Timmins midgets have two or three openings on defense, four or five forward spots open and one goalie position up for grabs.

As the Majors look ahead to the 2017-2018 campaign, there is nowhere to go but up. The Majors finished last in the seven-team Great North in 2016-2017 with a record of 2-32-2.

But there is much new to the Majors, beginning with first-year head coach Brandon Perry.

Perry, who captained and starred for the Timmins midgets a dozen years ago, will be assisted by Derick Martin, Darren Thib and goalie coach Trevor McGee.
