Great North Midget Hockey League will be a featured attraction in Sault Ste. Marie this weekend with the Timmins Majors in town for a troika of tests.

Timmins will play the Soo Greyhounds tonight in a slated 8:30 p.m. start at the Essar Centre and again on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at John Rhodes Community Centre.

In between, Timmins will face off against the Soo Thunderbirds on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Rhodes Centre.

The Greyhound major midgets have already played four regular-season games — all at home — and have a record of 2-2-0. Of note, forwards Owen Shier, Avery Rebek, Parker Morgan, Colby Arbour and Nick Jameus have tallied two goals each for the Greyhounds thus far.

Timmins, which is coming off a last-place finish in the Great North from 2016-2017, will make its 2017-2018 regular season debut this weekend with the three games. Returnees of note for the Majors this season include forwards Cameron Chisholm, Austin Holmes and Riley Brousseau.

The Thunderbird minor midgets will be making their regular-season debut with Saturday’s match against Timmins. Among others, the Thunderbirds feature bantam-aged defenseman Jack Matier, goalies Noah Zeppa and Tyler Greco and forwards Michael Chaffay and Justin Mauro.

Another game of note this weekend has the North Bay Trappers playing host to the Kapuskasing Flyers on Saturday night at 7:30 at Memorial Gardens.

The major midgets from North Bay have a 2-0-0 record to date and are led by Nick Davis, who already has 4 goals in the 2 outings.

Kapuskasing has a record of 1-1-1 through 3 games and is led by Jacob Comeau, who has 4 goals.
