Hearst native Jacob Comeau has been tapped as the new captain of the Kapuskasing Flyers of the Great North Midget Hockey League.

The Flyers introduced Comeau as their captain and Eastview Chevrolet as their new major sponsor at a Thursday evening press conference.

A 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward with a 2000 birth date, Comeau finished third on the Kap scoring chart in 2016-2017. After scoring 17 goals, 18 assists, 35 points in 35 regular-season games, Comeau tallied three more times and added an assist in seven playoff outings.

Flyers president Darren Potvin lauded the leadership qualities of Comeau.

“We are very proud of naming Jacob our captain,” Potvin began. “From his first day in our dressing room we knew this day would come. He is a great leader and we know our boys will follow in his footsteps.”

Kapuskasing is coming off a 2016-2017 campaign in which it posted a regular-season record of 24-9-3 and placed fourth in the hotly-contested Great North. The Flyers then swept the New Liskeard Cubs in the first round of the playoffs before extending the top-seeded North Bay Trappers to a fifth-and-deciding game in the semi-finals.
