North Bay to Kirkland Lake
Hard-working forward Joe Whittet has parlayed three seasons with the North Bay Trappers of the Great North Midget Hockey League into a signing by the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.
A fearless, feisty, front-line skater, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Whittet rang up 80 points and racked up 204 penalty minutes in 96 regular-season games spanning three seasons with the North Bay midgets.
First-year Kirkland Lake coach-general manager Ryan Wood took note of Whittet — who has a 1999 birth date — in flattering terms.
“Joe brings a physical presence to the rink, he’s hard to play against and he’s got offensive skills,” Wood said of Whittet.
