Soo minor midgets so far

Head coach Jamie Henderson has confirmed 18 of the 19 players for the 2018-2019 edition of the Soo Minor Thunderbirds of the Great North Midget Hockey League.

All players have 2003 birth dates.

GOALIES: Andy Couture, Evan Nicholls.

DEFENSEMEN: Jack Matier, Tyler Dunbar, Thomas Irwin, Cooper Proulx.

FORWARDS: Gavin Ritacco, Ethan Novello, Jake Kovacs, Nathan Rowe, Caleb Boylan, Stephen Pszeniczny, Theo Smith, Austin Mortimore, Nixon Zelonko, Emerik Deschamplain, Dylan Szabo, Carson Barnes.

STAFF: Head coach Jamie Henderson, assistant coaches Laine Bertin and Micky Sartoretto, player development coach Mark Matier, manager Shawn Folz.

Henderson said the Soo minor midgets are on the look for one more defenseman to round out their roster ahead of the 2018-2019 campaign.

Under the direction of new commissioner Albert Corradini — who is the former multiple championship general manager of the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves major midgets — the Great North loop will continue to operate with the same nine teams in 2018-2019 that it did in 2017-2018.

Soo Thunderbirds, Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves, North Bay Trappers, Timmins Majors, Kapuskasing Flyers and New Liskeard Cubs will make up the major midget division with all teams playing 36 regular season games.

Soo Thunderbirds, Sudbury Wolves and North Bay Trappers will comprise the minor midget division with all teams playing 24 regular season games.

The major midget teams will play one another six times apiece and face off against the minor midget clubs two times each.
