Points for Soo minor midgets

Through five games into their first season in the Great North Midget Hockey League the minor midget Soo Thunderbirds have yet to post a victory.

But the Thunderbirds, who are very well-coached and tutored by student-of-the-game bench boss Jamie Henderson, have managed to make a point despite not being victorious.

Three points, as a matter of fact.

While win-less in the five games, the Thunderbirds have gone into overtime in three of those matches. Thus, the first-year minor midget squad from the Soo has a record of 0-2-3.

Of note, one of the points via overtime setback came against the established, major midget Timmins Majors.

Watching Henderson at work during practice and games, it is quite obvious that the former assistant coach with the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League runs a well-thought-out, well-planned program.

Lack of wins aside, this young Soo minor midget squad is learning and developing under Henderson and his staff of assistants.

There have been notable standouts for the Thunderbird minor midgets thus far in the early going of the 2017-2018 Great North regular season.

Pint-sized goalie Noah Zeppa has stood tall with a 0-0-3 record and 3.24 goals against average.

Small-but-speedy forward Justin Mauro is a point-per-game player with 3 goals and 2 assists.

Fellow forwards Brock Santa Maria, Michael Chaffay and Hunter Rheaume have all tallied 2 goals apiece.

The Thunderbird minor midgets have yet to win.

But they are playing to win and they are competing hard.

Which are victories, just not by definition.

  1. What about the soo greyhounds major midget AAA RANDY? We realize that you think a certain coach is the next coming of Christ so you can’t help but write continuously about him and his team but there’s other boys working hard in this town and another coaching staff working just has hard. Unreal.
