Cameron Dutkiewicz

Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have acquired smart, skilled 2001 birth year defenseman Cameron Dutkiewicz in a cash exchange.

A Timmins native, the 6 foot, 190 pound Dutkiewicz spent the 2019-2020 season with the Renfrew Timberwolves of the Central Canada Hockey League 2 division.

He netted four goals, 11 assists, 15 points in 40 games for Renfrew.

A right handed shooting defender with offensive skills, Dutkiewicz spent three full seasons prior to the 2019-2020 campaign on the blue line of the Timmins Majors of the Great North Midget Hockey League developing under coach Brandon Perry and his staff.

In 100 regular season games with the Timmins midgets, Dutkiewicz totaled 20 goals, 22 assists, 42 points.

Thunderbirds general manager Trev Zachary said he is thrilled to be able to add a player of Dutkiewicz’s ability.

“We are excited to be able to get a well rounded defenseman who skates well,” Zachary told Hockey News North. “A few of our kids who played against him in midget have a lot of good things to say about him.

“Defensemen like Cameron don’t become available that often … he defends his zone well and will contribute offensively,” Zachary added in further praise of Dutkiewicz.
