Goalie Noah Zeppa was a standout for the Soo Major Thunderbirds in Game 1 of their Great North Midget Hockey League playoff series with the North Bay Major Trappers. The 2002 birth-year goalie made 63 saves for the Soo in a 5-0 loss to North Bay.

Game 2 in the best-of-five, semi-final series is slated for this afternoon at 2:30 at North Bay Memorial Gardens.

In Friday’s opener, North Bay had a 2-0 lead after two periods before further taking it to the Soo with three third-period tallies.

As Zeppa made 63 saves for the Soo, North Bay was not without top performers. Joseph Jordan scored twice and added an assist and Jack Stockfish had a goal and three helpers to lead the Trappers.

Reece Proulx was rarely tested in posting the shutout for the home team.

North Bay finished in first place during the Great North regular season with a perfect 36-0-0 record while the Soo was a distant fourth with a 12-24-0 mark.
