Pretty sure about Ryan Burr
He is one of those later-developing players.
Born in November of 1995, he also has what hockey people refer to as a late birthday.
Big, strong and with a howitzer of a shot, Ryan Burr is on fast-track development as a rookie with the Flint Jr. Generals of the North American 3 Hockey League.
Burr, a 6-foot-3, 195 pound defenceman who played in the North American Prospects League with the New Jersey Titans in 2012-2013 before making the jump to Flint and the NA3HL in 2013-2014, is scheduled to move up another rung in 2014-2015.
The Toms River, New Jersey product has signed a tender with the Michigan Warriors of the North American Hockey League and indications are that he is ready for the move up.
“He has been great for us all year,” Flint head coach Steve Howard said of Burr. “It has been exciting to watch his growth as a player.
“Ryan is a big kid who plays physical and has a hard shot,” Howard continued. “He has signed an NAHL tender to play with the Warriors next season and we look forward to seeing him continue his career here in Flint.”
Burr has unfinished business with the Jr. Generals, however.
Flint fashioned a fabulous regular-season record of 42-4-2 to finish atop the standings of the East Division of the NA3HL. The Jr. Generals have this weekend off and will face either the Metro Jets or Toledo Cherokee in the first round of the NA3HL playoffs.
To be sure, among many others on the Jr. Generals, Burr will be relied upon to carry his regular-season play into the playoffs.
“No question, we look for Ryan to be a big asset for us in the playoffs,” said Howard.
Having already signed Burr to a tender, the NAHL Warriors aren’t the only higher-level team to have taken note of the skilled defenceman who produced 5 goals, 19 assists, 24 points and was a +32 with 74 penalty minutes in 40 regular-season games with the Jr. Generals.
More than one Division 3 National Collegiate Athletic Association school has Burr on its radar and if he makes the anticipated leap to the NAHL next season, the late-blooming youngster could well attract some Division 1 interest.
First things first, however.
Which would be the upcoming NA3HL playoffs and a possible trip to the Silver Cup Tournament for the Jr. Generals.
