Soo Eagles eke one out
Bruno Birzitis netted his second goal of the game late in the third period to boost the Soo Eagles to a 3-2 win over the visiting Janesville Jets in the 2014-2015 regular-season opener for both North American Hockey League teams.
Friday’s game was played before more than 750 fans at refurbished Pullar Stadium.
Raymond Brice also scored for the Eagles while Drew Callin had both Janesville goals.
Eagles goalie Sean Keating, acquired during the off-season from the Pembroke Lumber Kings of the Central Canada Hockey League, made 28 saves in his Soo debut.
The two teams play again tonight in a 7 p.m. scheduled start at the Pullar.
