Two teams in a race for second place in the North Division of the North American Hockey League will face off tonight and Saturday evening at Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Soo.

Soo Eagles, who hold second in the North with 58 points, will play host to the third-seeded Keystone Ice Miners, who have 57.

Six points are at stake in the weekend series beginning at 7:30 tonight.

Before tonight’s regularly-scheduled game, the Eagles and Keystone need to finish off the final 12-plus minutes of a suspended match from last month. The Soo was leading Keystone 2-1 in the third period when the game had to be halted because of a faulty glass partition at the Ice Miners home rink.

After tonight, the two teams meet again on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Pullar.

With both teams having eight games to play in the regular season, Eagles veteran forward Brad Pung knows what is at stake.

“We want to finish second and get home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs,” said Pung, has scored 15 goals for the Eagles this season and been one of their most-consistent players. “We are playing really well right now but Keystone wants second place as much as we do, I would think.”

Rookie forward Raymond Brice, who has 8 goals this season, said the Eagles — who have a record of 7-1-1 in their last 9 outings — seem to be peaking at the right time.

“We are a hard-working team that does not let up and things are really coming together for us,” said the hard-toiling, fast-skating Brice.
