First points for Andrew Barbeau

Andrew Barbeau, a 1997 birth-year defenceman from the Canadian side of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie, is adapting quite well to the level of play in the North American Hockey League.

For starters, Barbeau, a rookie with the NAHL’s Michigan Warriors and the youngest player — and only one with a 1997 birth date — on the team, is taking a regular turn on the blueline.

And not only is the 5-foot-10, 180 pound Barbeau playing regular minutes as one of the youngest players in the entire 24-team NAHL, he has a goal, an assist and a plus-minus rating of +3 in 11 games for a Warriors team that has a record of 6-7.

Barbeau picked up his first two NAHL points in a 5-2 Warriors win over the Springfield Jr. Blues on Saturday.

To be sure, Barbeau is developing with the Flint-based Warriors under the watchful eye and stern hand of crusty coach Moe Mantha, the old National Hockey League defenceman of more than 650 games.

Playing for a demanding coach is not new for Barbeau, who skated for the Soo Indians major midgets in 2013-2014 under taskmaster coach Pat Carricato.

What you think about “First points for Andrew Barbeau”

  1. I had the pleasure of watching Andrew Barbeau score his first points as a Michigan Warrior. He positively scorched the puck on his goal. Go Andrew! Go Warriors!

  2. What a big weekend cominng up for the Warriors with the “Zoo Eagles” coming to Flint. Keep your head’s up Seagles!

  3. Ryan Burr is a also good young d-Man who has look good for the Warriors so far.
I know you wrote about Ryan for the Junior Genrals last year Randy. I like the Article’s on the NA.

    1. Perry – You brought up a great point with your thoughts on Ryan Burr. I am impressed with the play of this young man so far. He comes to the arena with his game face on, and has already delivered several memorable hits this season.

  4. Just mite check out the Warriors Game on Friday and then come back to Brownstown to watch the Pink In The Rink Game on Saturday with the Fighting Irish and Alpeena. Heres to Junior Hockey!

  5. FYI – My favorite player Andrew Barbeau suspended by the NAHL for 2 games for hit to the head against opponent last weekend.

    1. Unbelievable! Happened right in front of me. I’ll be the first to admit that I am biased toward the Warriors and Andrew Barbeau. Having said that, I need to review this play again on Fast Hockey. It looked like a fairly typical on-ice collision to me, but the other guy did bleed some. The referee did not initially signal a penalty as I recall. The penalty was called after blood was discovered on the ice about one minute after the collision. Unfair in my opinion, but like I said, I am biased and will fess up to it.
