Playing in front of back-to-back, Pullar Stadium crowds of more than 700 fans both nights, Soo Eagles fashioned a weekend sweep of the visiting Minnesota Wilderness.

Led by a pair of rookies — goalie Jack Berry and forward Keegan Miller — the Eagles emerged from the Wilderness with 7-2 and 4-3 triumphs to move into first place in the North Division of the North American Hockey League with a 7-5 record.

Berry stopped 70 of 75 shots in the two wins and now has a record of 5-1 to go with a 1.59 goals-against-average and .938 save percentage.

Teaming with veteran junior goalie Sean Keating, Berry is part of a topnotch twine tandem for the Eagles.

Miller, meanwhile had a 5-point weekend — 3 goals, 2 assists — to boost his totals to 5-6-11 in 11 games this season.

The Eagles have now won three straight games with the sweep of Minnesota coming against a Wilderness team that began the weekend with a 6-1 record but is now 6-3.

Next up for the surging Eagles is a pair of games next weekend, with the Janesville Jets headed to the Soo for Friday (7:30) and Saturday (7:00) games at Pullar Stadium.

What you think about “Rookies spark Eagles sweep”

  1. The Eagles are looking real good . . lots of scoring from all the Lines and good young goalie in Jack Barry. When Keating gets hot the Eagles will be really tough to be beat with 2 real good goalies.

  2. too bad Bruno can’t seem to find a spot for the other 2 all-state forward rookies on the team to play any games…..looks like the “local boys” will have to find somewhere else to play.
