Soo Eagles face a virtual must-win situation tonight when they play host to Janesville Jets in a 7:30 start-time encounter at Pullar Stadium.

The Eagles are tied with Springfield for the fourth-and-final playoff spot in the six-team North Division of the North American Hockey League with 47 points but the Jr. Blues have a game in hand.

Then there is Janesville, tonight’s opponent.

The surging Jets are 4-1-1 in their last six outings to pull within two points of the Eagles — and with three games in hand.

At the other end, the Eagles have lost five straight games.

“We need a win tonight, it’s as simple as that,” Eagles coach-general manager Bruno Bragagnolo said evenly.

Forwards Mike Sabatini, Scott Cuthrell and Nick Belger are the scoring leaders for the Eagles, who have struggled to put the puck in the net during the five-game losing streak.

“We’re getting the chances, we’re just not scoring,” noted Bragagnolo.

Sabatini tops the Soo scoring chart with 14 goals, 16 assists, 30 points. Cuthrell has 12 goals, 15 assists, 27 points. Belger has 12 goals, 11 assists, 23 points.
