Four-point weekend for Eagles
Only three weekends remain in the North American Hockey League regular season and four teams — including Soo Eagles — are in a frantic chase for two playoff spots in the North Division.
With 68 points, first-place Port Huron Fighting Falcons have a playoff spot clinched.
Michigan Warriors are in second place with 61 points but after that, only five points seperate the remaining four teams.
Johnston Tomahawks have 56 points, Janesville Jets have 55,the Eagles have 53 and Springfield Jr. Blues have 51.
Johnstown, Soo and Springfield have all played 53 games, one more than Janesville.
As for the Soo, the Eagles are fresh from a weekend sweep of visiting Michigan, defeating the Warriors by 3-2 and 6-2 scores.
Speedy forward Scott Cuthrell had a four-point weekend that included three goals, Matt Menta and Ryan Urso also produced four points each and goalie Paige Skoog stopped 48 of 52 shots in the two Soo wins.
With seven games to play in the regular season, the Eagles are at Port Huron for a pair this weekend.
After that, the Eagles are at Johnstown for a trio of games before concluding the regular season at home March 28-29 against Springfield.
2 good crowds and 2 big wins by the Eagles this weekend. I liked the way Cuthrel and Belger played up front Menta too and Skoog in the nets but more players need to step it up. imho.
