Michigan Warriors take charge
So far so good for Michigan Warriors, who have picked a good time to solve an opposing puzzle.
The Warriors have taken a two games to none lead in their first-round, best-of-five, North American Hockey League playoff series with Janesville Jets.
The Warriors — who are the second seed in the NAHL’s North Division — used home ice advantage on the weekend to push Janesville to the brink of elimination, defeating the third-ranked Jets by 4-2 and 5-1 scores.
Game 3 in the series is slated for Janesville on Friday night.
Janesville entered the playoffs as the hottest team in the NAHL North, having posted a 10-1-1 record down the stretch to vault from sixth place to third in the regular-season standings.
Included in that 10-1-1 record for Janesville over its last 12 games of the regular season was a 3-1-1 mark against Michigan.
A key to the Warriors success in the first two games was the play of the Connor Lyons-Jake Hopfner-TJ Stuntz line.
Lyons, who played a season in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League with Soo Eagles before moving to the NAHL, had a goal and an assist in Game 2 to aid the Warriors cause.
