NCAA commitments for 2 Soo Eagles

Two more 1994 birth-year forwards who played for the Soo Eagles in 2014-2015 have made National Collegiate Athletic Association commitments, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

Brad Pung is headed to St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin and Matt Menta is off to Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts.

Earlier, was was reported by HockeyNewsNorth.com, another graduate of the Eagles, Chase Matson, committed to Adrian College, which is about 90 miles southwest of Detroit.

St. Norbert, Nichols and Adrian are among the top Division 3, NCAA hockey programs in the United States.

Pung, in going to St. Norbert, is fresh from a 2014-2015 North American Hockey League season with the Eagles in which he had 20 goals, 18 assists, 38 points in 67 games, playoffs included.

Menta, who produced 11 goals, 17 assists, 28 points in 63 games for the Eagles in 2014-2015, will be joining former Soo teammate Scott Cuthrell at Nichols. Cuthrell, a speedy centre, had 19 points in 27 games as a freshman at Nichols in 2014-2015.

Eagles coach-general manager Bruno Bragagnolo said the commitments made by Pung and Menta “are another example of two players who defined our program as leaders on and off the ice. Both of these young men are headed to schools that have really good hockey programs.”
