Beaver fever in Blind River

For the first time in a Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League history that began in 1999, the Blind River Beavers are headed to the championship series.

Playing at home in front of more than 600 fans tonight, the Beavers cuffed the Soo Eagles 5-1 to win the best-of-seven West Division final four games to one.

Just a year ago, the Beavers won only 10 regular-season games and missed the playoffs entirely.

But led by the three-point efforts of Max Khull and Cole Peck and the 37-save effort of Aidan Doak, the Kyle Brick-coached Beavers capped the West Division crown tonight and will meet the East Division-winning Powassan Voodoos in the NOJHL finals in a battle of small-market teams.

What you think about “Beaver fever in Blind River”

  1. I’m happy that a team other than Soo Thunderbirds have won the West….their time was done, it was over for them. Blind River deserves this chance to go to the finals.

  2. Congratulations Beaves! Well earned, good luck against Powasson. This is a very exciting time in BR for their organization

  3. The Dam was packed and it was great to see a championship come to Blind River after all this time, it is well deserved. The loyalty of these fans was finally rewarded and it continues against Powasson in the next round. Coaching with tremendous leadership from Kyle, Craig and Dylan. Very proud of this team.
    P.S.
We have the smartest and without a doubt, the prettiest G.M. in the league, sorry Lenny you been passed over.

  4. I guess local sports in the Soo is contained inside city boundaries as the Sault Star neglects anything outside those boundaries. Thankfully we have independent news sources that keep us informed such as the great coverage from Randy Russon and the Hockey News North.

  5. Our local TV stations also don’t cover anything in this league anymore.
    They did until before Christmas.
Maybe once we are in Powassan we will get SOME coverage.
Would be nice to have it now.
Our boys played fantastic and deserve all the praise they can get from
    the public.
    Thanks again Randy.
