Marc-Alain Bégin is returning to his hockey roots in more ways than one. Not only will the 25-year old Begin be an assistant coach for the man who tutored him in their hometown, he will be coaching in the league where he was a former scoring star.

Begin has signed on as an assistant coach with the new Hearst Lumberjacks of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. With the Lumberjacks, Begin will work under his former midget coach with the Hearst Elans, Marc Lafleur.

And getting his first taste of coaching at the junior level will mark a return to the NOJHL for Begin, who was one of the most pure goal-scoring forwards to ever skate in the league while starring for the erstwhile Abitibi Eskimos.

In 162 games spanning three terms, regular season and playoffs included, Begin scored 113 goals for Abitibi despite playing for a Paul Gagne-coached team that focused on the neutral-zone trap style of hockey.

Begin also played for two teams in the Quebec Major Jr. Hockey League spanning parts of two seasons and netted 21 goals in 96 games before going on to skate for two years with the Laurentian University Voyageurs.

He returned to Hearst a few years back and has been coaching minor hockey in his hometown.
