Close wins for Timmins, KL

Timmins Rock and Kirkland Lake Gold Miners both scored one-goal victories as semi-final playoffs in the East Division of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League continued on Wednesday.

TIMMINS ROCK 2, HEARST LUMBERJACKS 1

Rookie forward Riley Brousseau, a graduate of the Timmins Majors of the Great North Midget Hockey League, scored the game winner in overtime as the Rock edged the visiting Lumberjacks in front of more than 1,000 fans at McIntyre Arena.

The Rock now leads the best-of-seven set two games to one.

KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS 2, POWASSAN VOODOOS 1

Playing on the road after dropping the first two games of the series at home, Kirkland Lake eked out a 2-1 triumph over Powassan.

James Scott netted the game winner for KL midway through the third period to give coach Ryan Wood’s Gold Miners some breathing room ahead of Game 4 in Powassan.

Riley Brousseau was the overtime hero for the Timmins Rock in its Game 3 playoff win over the Hearst Lumberjacks.
