Don’t count T-Birds out

Soo Thunderbirds may be trailing Soo Eagles two games to none in their best-of-seven Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoff series but it would be foolish to sell the two-time defending champions short.

That is not to say the fourth-seeded Eagles are unworthy of being up 2-0 by virtue of a pair of hard-earned, 4-3 road victories over the top-seeded T-Birds in the West Division border battle.

Even though both games could have gone either way, the Eagles were full marks for the two triumphs.

But as the Eagles know the series is far from over, the Thunderbirds do as well.

And this is a well-coached, well-led T-Birds team.

You think Thunderbirds coach Jordan Smith is going to concede an inch to the cross-river Eagles? Not a chance.

The Thunderbirds have firepower aplenty and with a few bounces in Games 1 and 2 could be up 2-0 themselves — or at least tied.

I have been at both games to date and as the 4-3 scores (one in double overtime) would indicate, the contests have been evenly-matched.

To be sure, the Thunderbirds are in a hole and the margin for error has shrunk.

But if the Thunderbirds have any of the dogged traits of their head coach, methinks there are more shots to fired in the border battle barn storm.

What you think about “Don’t count T-Birds out”

  1. I believe the Tbirds will regroup and pull out the wins they need to win the series, however they have to win the next game.

  2. I’m hoping Blind River wins the series. Like USA hockey coach Herb Brooks says “Their time is done. It’s over” in relation to the Soo Thunderbirds reign. “This is your time” in relation to Blind River Beavers.
