Nothing like a whitewash on home ice to take a pivotal series lead. Rookie forward Austin Rowe tallied once and set up two others as the Soo Eagles blanked the Soo Thunderbirds 3-0 tonight in Game 3 of their Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoff series.

With the tidy triumph, the Eagles take a two games to one lead in the best-of-seven set. The Eagles will retain home ice advantage for Game 4 back at Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Soo on Friday night.

With general manager Bruno Bragagnolo calling the coaching shots for the second straight game with head coach Jim Capy away on a family matter, the Eagles scored once in all three periods in support of the shutout goal-tending of Carter McPhail, who made 30 saves.

Besides Rowe, other Eagles goal-scorers were Gianni Vitali and Brendan Blair.

Previously, the Thunderbirds had won the series opener 4-3 (in overtime) on home ice before the Eagles tied the set with a 3-2 road triumph.
