Eagles clip visiting T-Birds
Soo Eagles skated to their first victory of the season over the cross-border Soo Thunderbirds on Friday. Before just over 600 fans at Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Soo, the Eagles clipped the visiting Thunderbirds by a 3-2 margin.
The Thunderbirds had won the first three meetings of the 2018-2019 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season against the Eagles.
Friday’s loss also halted an eight-game winning streak for the Thunderbirds, who remain atop the West Division of the NOJHL with 44 points from a record of 22-6-0.
A second-period goal by Ryan Dacks stood up as the game winner for the Michigan-based Eagles, who also received tallies from Soo, Ontario products Caleb Wood and Raf Praysner. Wood’s goal was his team-leading 15th of the season while Praysner’s marker was his ninth.
The Eagles improved their record to 13-16-1, good for 27 points, with the victory.
Nolan Ford and Lucas Theriault scored for the Thunderbirds. Theriault’s goal was his 21st of the campaign.
The two teams face off again tonight at 7:00 at John Rhodes Community Centre.
