Kade Phipps made 46 saves and Soo Eagles upended the two-time reigning champion Soo Thunderbirds 3-2 tonight to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the second round, best-of-seven Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League playoff series.

All three games in the West Division semi-final have been decided by one goal.

Playing at home in front of more than 900 fans at Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Soo, the Eagles scored the game winner just past the seven-minute mark of the third period when Brad Hofelich converted assists from Canadian Soo products Jake Palmerio and Nick Trecroce.

Chris Lutz and Chris Murphy had scored earlier goals for the Eagles, who finished in fourth place in the West Division during the regular season.

Zachary Senecal and Sean Emmerson replied for the visiting Thunderbirds, who finished atop the West Division during the regular season.

Game 4 in the series is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Pullar Stadium.

What you think about “Eagles edge T-Birds again”

  1. This is quite a shocker to see the Eagles up 3 games to 0. I don’t even recall the last time a team come back from a 3-0 series deficit to win game 7 in the NOJHL playoffs. I don’t see a Thunderbirds come back and see a new NOJHL champion.

  2. Old saying its not over till its over. But the ball is in their court eagles.. thunderbirds have too play harder and smarter to get a win. We will see friday night . Should be a barn burner.

    1. Absolutely correct!!! Thunderbirds have no pressure now cause very few outside the team expect them to win four straight. But………if there is a team that can do it, its the Birds!!!

  3. Yes series is far from over, if there is a team that could win 4 straight it is the T-birds. but as a Eagles fan it is so good to see their talent finally come together. This is a game that you should not miss
