Sault Ste. Marie product and former Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League scoring star Lucas Theriault has his first Ontario Hockey League goal.

The 19-year old Theriault found the back of the net for the Niagara IceDogs on Friday in an 8-4 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs.

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound Theriault scored 53 goals in 70 NOJHL games — regular season and playoffs included — for the Soo Thunderbirds in 2018-2019.

He was taken by Niagara in the 12th round of the 2016 OHL priority selections draft from the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Great North Midget Hockey League and was subsequently cut by the IceDogs three times before finally making the team ahead of this season.

What you think about “First for Lucas Theriault”

  1. I am glad for Lucas. I have watched his play every time he came North to enjoy Hwy 11 hospitality. His skills were a key part of the T-Birds successes last year. I hope he enjoys having my nephew for a fan now.
