Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have obtained 1998 birth year goalie Shayne Battler from the Fort Erie Meteors of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound puck-stopper is a former sixth-round Ontario Hockey League draft pick of the Sarnia Sting.

Battler believes he can fill the void left by the trade of last year’s starter and NOJHL most valuable player Nate McDonald, who was recently dealt to the Whitby Fury of the Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of stepping into my role as the starter and having a very successful season with the Voodoos,” Battler began.

“My goals for the 2017-2018 season are to be a team leader and a role model. I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Voodoos organization and I am committed to proving myself as a top goaltender in the NOJHL,” he added.
