Newly-acquired forward Gregory Trudeau-Paquet is already paying dividends for the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

The high-scoring, 1999 birth-year forward made his debut with KL on Friday and assisted on all three goals for the visiting Gold Miners in a 3-2 triumph over the Soo Thunderbirds.

Trudeau-Paquet was acquired earlier in the day from the French River Rapids for forwards Gabriel Rheault (1997 birth date) and Adam Kusior (1998 birth date.) French River also received cash in the exchange.

In 25 games with French River this season, Trudeau-Paquet had 19 goals, 15 assists, 34 points.

Rheault and Kusior had a combined 28 points for French River at the time of the trade and are serviceable forwards who add depth to the Rapids.

Kirkland Lake coach-general manager Ryan Wood told HockeyNewsNorth.com that the deal “had been in the works for about three weeks.

“It was nice to finally get the deal done,” added Wood. “Any time you can add an elite player it can only help your team.”

Kirkland Lake is in a torrid race with the Cochrane Crunch for second place in the NOJHL’s East Division. The Gold Miners head across the International Bridge tonight to take on the Soo Eagles in a 7 p.m. match at venerable Pullar Stadium.

What you think about “KL strikes gold”

  1. I find it surprising the Rapids would trade their top scorer at this time of the season. Hard to find players of his talent these days.
