Hard-nosed winger Brady Maltais is making the jump from the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves of the Great North Midget Hockey League to the Rayside-Balfour Canadians of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Maltais, who has a 2000 birth date, netted 16 goals, 25 assists, 41 points and rang up 96 minutes in penalties in 33 games with the Nickel Capital Wolves during the 2016-2017 Great North regular season.

“He is a player who we were really impressed with at our spring camp,” relayed Rayside president Adrian Gedye.

The signing of Maltais is also part of Rayside’s mandate to sign local players.

“We feel as an organization it is important to develop our Sudbury area players,” venerable Canadians coach-general manager Dave Clancy told HockeyNewsNorth.com.

Maltais is the second player that Rayside has signed from the Nickel Capital Wolves midgets within the past week.

Earlier, the Canadians inked 2000 birth-year goalie Matty Mayhew, who was a teammate of Maltais with the Nickel Capital Wolves this past season.
